Last day of this confusing hell week! WHY is it so insanely busy??? I'm gonna make it, though! It started to rain a bit on my way here. Almost all of the snow is gone. We're all gonna make it.

13. Who in Your Life Introduces You to New Music?

MOSTLY it's some fuckass website feeding me a list of 1001 albums, but also podcasts and the radio and whatever remnants of the old blogosphere are still left standing. Fluxblog has a newsletter now! And did you know most decent/interesting radio stations have apps these days? And of course, I'm hardly immune to the charms of the Spotify algorithm; it does occasionally surface decent stuff amidst all the slop, even if my listening habits make it hard for it to get a handle on what I'm actually into. Also Hangman Page, for some reason???

back now

still busy

urge to get home and just play some random game until the morning is rising

ONE MORE DAY.

12. Do/Did You Collect Anything?

Sure! Pokemon cards, Criterion disks, unplayed Steam games, regrets. Lots of things!

Happy Easter, it fucking snowed again. I am ignoring WrestleMania after the big WWE 'we love rapists and our president' whirlwind press blitz of the last few days served as the last five nails in the coffin of my being able to consume their content without getting overwhelmed by moral ick. They're already back on their monopoly kick what with buying out AAA, hopefully they don't scoop up GCW, too, like it really seems they might; Big Gay Brunch and the Clusterfuck were the only things to make last night palatable, wrestling-wise.

Actually got a decent night's sleep, having had one of my rare crash nights after eating way too much Indian food. My stomach's bothering me today, though. Work remains crazy, and I really wish I could celebrate 4/20 properly this year to offset it. Will have to settle for making perogies and watching an episode of Twin Peaks and reminding myself that I've only got two more days of work before my week off and random trip to Edmonton to go watch David Lynch movies. And then come back to work just in time for month end, I guess. Gross.

I have somehow been here for four hours already. I have accomplished... nothing. Okay, time to try not being a lump for a little while.

11. Have You Ever Experienced Food Insecurity?

I don't think so? It's tough to say, because we were very poor when I was a kid, but my mom did a pretty good job of shielding me from the worst of it. I ate a lot of shitty food, but I'm pretty sure we never went hungry.

Cracking open The Count of Monte Cristo on a lovely Saturday morning at work, as one does. My day off for Jesus was very nice; lunch with the family followed by Sinners, which is, in fact, my favourite movie of the year to date, followed by a trip to Mac Island to do some voting and then McDonald's and an episode of Dark Side of the Ring before toddling off to bed and staying up way too late anyway. And now it's the weekend! Hopefully it'll be a chill one.

10. What Have You Made Yourself?

I'M TRYING TO WRITE AGAIN, LEAVE ME ALONE.

Remember two years ago, when Hangman stuck a crown of thorns on Adam Cole's head in a Texas Death Match on Good Friday? lol that ruled

Maundy Thursday! I stayed up too late again watching more Sakura Genesis, but I've only got the main event left! Yota Tsuji pulling out twin magic at the most random, unexpected times is so goddamn funny to me. Also finished Daredevil: Born Again and have a surprising amount of feelings about it:

i guess i'll put a spoiler cut here for a couple things )

Off tomorrow because Easter, which I completely forgot about and am very grateful for (anything to break up the work week, man). Going to have lunch with my grandmother and then go see Sinners. For Jesus.

9. What Is Your Racial and Ethnic Identity?

White and French and that's about it.

Back to work, it's snowing, and CDK is down across North America. Great. Just awesome. It's only Wednesday and my eyes already hurt, but that probably has more to do with the part where I stayed up until one in the morning watching the first half of Sakura Genesis (only ten days late, whatever). I am very sad about El Phantasmo and the War Dogs both losing their title matches, even if I expected it (I love Great-O-Khan, too, so I can't be MAD about the TV title changing hands, and Sanada joining House of Torture was somehow the only thing I was spoiled for, so as soon as his match was the opener I just assumed he'd cost them the trios title BUT HE STILL DIDN'T HAVE TO DO MY MAN DRILLA LIKE THAT).

I wish I was still at home with my new keyboard, forever.

8. What Childhood Rules Did You Break?

If you're breaking them all the time, then they're not very good rules, are they? I didn't really have many to begin with, I was just... good, idk. I guess I watched Power Rangers sometimes when my mom didn't want me to?

Oh, good, CDK is back online. I can work again. :(

Back to work tomorrow. Going to do a big ol' nonogram and try to motivate myself to change the bedsheets and actually finish my laundry so I have something to wear. Maybe. We'll see. Motivation is tough to scrape together at the moment.

Album #469/1001: Sugar - Copper Blue )

I have finished my nonogram. It was a picture of a fat business pigeon. If I can get my bed stripped and go check the mail, I will reward myself with El Desperado vs. Clark Connors at Jr. Genesis. Baby rhino's first deathmatch!! I can do this!!!

I am head over heels in love with my new keyboard; I'd been struggling along with a really low-profile lightweight job since I rearranged my bedroom last year and I genuinely had such a hard time with it and was not getting any better, and now typing is an absolute dream. Easily the best purchase I've made in a minute. I was obviously being facetious when I said it would help with my writer's block, but like... MAN, MAYBE??? Typing is such a joy now, I want any excuse to do more of it!

Like this entry! I've got nothing going on. I'm just watching one of the Road to Sakura Genesis shows as the sun goes down. There are just a few stray patches of snow left here and there, and I didn't even need a jacket to go check the mail earlier. Spring may be disgusting, but at least it's finally here. I think working over the weekend broke my wiring a bit, between my body and my subconscious, something in here just doesn't understand whether it's my week off or my week on or what, so I just feel kinda weird. At least I have one more day to chill and recover before going back for realsies. I should take a bath tonight now that my period is over.

Yesterday, I roasted my first-ever whole chicken, and it was somehow easier to deal with than skinless, boneless pieces. It also came out absolutely amazing??? Maybe it was just a perfectly fatted bird, but the skin came out so crispy?? Anyway, Passover was great! Jules came over with some freaking incredible Brussels sprouts and passionfruit sorbet, plus the... three bottles of wine we went through before we parted at like 11:30?? My down-the-block neighbor Jane also came by with her HUGE delightful baby Z! We talked about how our parents met and how the world will improve when we personally are the benevolent dictators of all and books and history and So Much More. It was good! It was lovely to do so after spending Friday night at Shabbat dinner with my other friend Jane. I was very glad to spend so much time shopping and cooking to get out of my head about sudden upcoming job-loss grief, which I am working hard to transmute into spite for finding a new, better thing, but it's still stinging like hell.

The three recipes on my end that made it all work:
  • Roast chicken with herb chutney, which I made atop a bunch of fingerling potatoes, just incredible
  • Moroccan charoset, which you can roll into balls or just eat as is; I used almonds instead of walnuts this year and it was lovely af
  • Soft matzah, which I only realized this year was a thing! I feel like I'll need to make more to get the hang of it, but holy cats, it's very simple and so tasty
  • Also, shout-out as ever to the Manischewitz matzah ball soup mix, which I just found out is vegetarian — reliable and so so easy; I'm glad I nabbed literally the last box at the grocery store yesterday morning

Gingko is in full rude girl mode today, after spending the night sleeping oh so sweetly on the other pillow at the head of my bed. Yesterday, she threw a tantrum when I wouldn't let her take a second trip down our business drag to beg for treats at each shop. Today, while doing just that, she made a scene at the queer gift shop/gallery. When she's hungry, especially when she can see food but can't have it yet, she'll point with her paw to, say, where her bowl goes. She'll also paw at your leg (or laptop) for attention. At the gallery, she thwapped one of the two owners in the junk! ("That's far from the first time that's happened," his partner said dryly from the couch nearby.)

Right now, she's in the crate, after I found her, yet again, all four feet atop my dining room table, trying to clean up plates and glasses. For once, she's not complaining (shouting and hollering!!), so... perhaps she knows she needs to chill out!! Which means it's time for me to take a shower and bite the bullet on my goddamn taxes. The free-file of affliction, sigh.

    23. Your rarest fandoms.

I have so many tiny Yuletide-sized fandoms! I think one of the rarest ones that I'm very passionate about might be "Dare", the gay short film (5 works on AO3, 3 of them mine). Or maybe "Pawns & Symbols", though I've received some great fic for that in exchanges and its fic count is now in the double-digits (hard to tell how many because the fandom tag is synned to 'Star Trek - Various Authors'). \o/

    24. A fandom you've abandoned and why.

When I'm not intensely fannish (anymore), I often lose track of ongoing fandoms - I keep meaning to catch up, but then I'm a whole season behind and then it's two seasons, and somehow I never get around to it, but I don't think of that as abandoning fandom because it's not a conscious choice.

One time I remember that I actively chose to abandon a fandom, it was Teen Wolf. After Alison died, I tried to keep watching, but losing one of my favorite characters (who was also part of almost all of my TW ships) ruined the show for me.

    25. Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending?

I have a lot of headcanons I'm personally attached to, ranging from 'Bubonic called the ambulance for Tommy in IRL' to 'Hadestown!Hades fucked Eurydice in his office when they made their deal' to 'Tim Drake is a subby bottom with flexible morality and a pain kink', but I don't see the point in arguing about headcanons or feeling the need to defend them. It's stuff I personally believe about my blorbos, not objective facts. If someone else has contradictory headcanons, they're no more right or wrong, and I'm not going to fight over it.

    Full list of questions!
    1. What's changed about your fandom life in the last 365 days?
    2. Your newest fandom.
    3. You've got your OTP, you have to throw a third into the mix (from the same fandom), creating an OT3. Who is the OTP, and in your opinion, why would they make a perfect third for them?
    4. What are the origins of your penname/username?
    5. What's a fandom that you wish had a bigger following?
    6. What's the longest you've ever been in a fandom? What fandom was it? Not necessarily your oldest fandom, but a fandom that you started and still continue to read/write/create content for in some way.
    7. What would make you leave a fandom, or prevent you from getting into it in the first place?
    8. Squicks - What are some things that squick you in fandom - not necessarily "icky", though it can be. From anything involving blood, to bad grammar.
    9. What's the hardest thing about writing, and why are titles the Worst™?
    10. Do you have a fandom that you follow - either regularly or casually - with little to no knowledge of canon?
    11. Ships that you currently like a lot. (They don't have to be OTPs because not everyone has OTPs.) Friendships, pairings, threesomes, etc. are allowed.
    12. A ship you have never liked and probably never will.
    13. Do you prefer art, fic, or vids? Why? Bonus: If someone was to give you a fandom gift, what format would it be?
    14. A pairing - platonic, romantic or sexual - that you initially didn't consider, but someone changed your mind.

    15. What was the first thing you ever contributed to a fandom?
    16. Do you remember your first OTP? Who was in it?

    17. What is your favourite source text for fandom stuff (e.g., TV shows, movies, books, anime, Western animation, etc.)?
    18. How many fandoms have you written for? How many have you been in, and how many are you still in?

    19. Has social media caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why?
    20. What fandom broke your heart?

    21. Say something genuinely nice about a character who isn't one of your faves. (Characters you're neutral about are fair game, as are characters you dislike or even loathe.)
    22. Name a character that you'd like to have for a friend.

    23. Your rarest fandoms.
    24. A fandom you've abandoned and why.
    25. Do you have any hard and fast headcanons that you will die defending?
    26. A trope which you are virtually certain to love in any fandom.
    27. A trope which you are virtually certain to hate in any fandom.
    28. How did you first get into fanfic, and what was the first fandom you wrote fic for?
    29. Have you ever tried to write for a fandom or ship, and found you couldn't?
    30. Name three things you wish you saw more of in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice).
